Our campus is always evolving. We have a £400 million plan to ensure our facilities are fit for the future of higher education. It’s all about preparing our students for a competitive global jobs market.

Facilities include:

·         Bloomberg Suite , where students monitor and analyse real-time data from global financial markets, and trade virtually

·         Centre for Creative and Immersive XR (eXtended Reality) – the UK’s first integrated facility to support innovation in the creative and digital technologies of virtual, augmented and extended realities, TV studios and photogrammetry

·         Centre for Simulation in Health and Care , including simulated GP surgery, mock dispensary, clinical skills simulation suite, one-bedroom flat and two acute hospital training wards

·         Future Technology Centre , where students collaborate with industry on advanced projects in science, technology, engineering and maths

·          Motion Capture Studio , where students can work with commercial clients and studios who want to use our facilities, including the Vicon optical system

·         Professional Interpreter Training Suite , featuring the latest technology as used in the European Parliament

·         Replica Courtroom – a realistic copy of a Crown Court, where students gain practical experience through mooting and simulated cases

You can also play, train and compete at the brand new Ravelin Sports Centre , opening 2022. It’s one of the UK’s most sustainable sports centres, with the latest fitness tech and affordable memberships.

Accommodation

Our halls are woven into the city centre, around the buildings of our campus. You’re always close to shops, restaurants and entertainment, with public transport links on your doorstep. And the beach is only a short walk away.

With a wide range of student accommodation to choose from, your options include:

Our Residence Life Team offer a varied social programme throughout the academic year. They’re also on hand to provide residential wellbeing and support in halls 24/7.

Courses created for the working world

We’ve designed our courses to give you a range of transferable skills – from communication to teamwork to time management. You’ll be able to show employers how you’re ready to be a valued member of their team from day one.

How can we be sure you’ll learn the right skills? Because we have strong links with employers in a wide range of different fields. What’s more, many lecturers and researchers at Portsmouth are actively involved in work with business and industry.

Many courses are accredited, approved or recognised by Professional Statutory Regulatory Bodies (PSRBs), certifying that you've got specialist knowledge and skills needed for those professions.

We’ve created simulated working environments and purchased specialist professional equipment, so you can develop and hone expert skills. Depending on your course, this could mean anything from experiencing working practices in a busy newsroom, to carrying out restorative dentistry.

Regular visits from employers, many of which run career-specific seminars, will give you a head start on your job hunt and enable you to start building a professional network.

We also offer a range of courses you can study while working , including degree apprenticeships, continuous professional development and learning at work degrees.

Placement opportunities

A placement year degree (also known as a sandwich degree) gives you a real, paid taste of working life between your penultimate and final year. It’s an option on many of our courses.

There are great reasons why you should consider a placement year:

Lots of our students are hired by their placement employer after graduation. Others choose to become self-employed and start their own business, with support from the University.
