Bachelor of Science in Biology

Biology is a broad and diverse academic discipline that has benefited from the development of modern and creative laboratory equipment and sophisticated methodologies in collaboration with other disciplines such as chemistry, physics, and engineering. This has led to a dynamic development of research at all levels of biological complexity, from molecules to ecosystems, where properties and interactions are studied.

The University of Southern Mindanao's Bachelor of Science in Biology Program has been updated to incorporate the most recent developments in teaching and research in the area, as well as the promotion of social responsibility. The degree program is organized as a broad framework of study with the goal of providing students with a solid foundation in the biological, natural, and physical sciences, as well as research methodology. This includes learning the necessary skills and receiving training in the effective processing and presentation of information in both written and oral forms.

In 3 to 5 years, the graduates of USM BS in Biology Program are expected to:

1) provide leadership in various development programs both public and private;

2) equip with technical, conceptual, and human resource skills;

3) pursue entrepreneurial activities;

4) able to adapt to diverse culture;

5) pursue advanced studies in emerging related fields;

6) conduct research in various areas of biology; and,

7) pursue a career in teaching.
