French curriculum at OWU includes the study of well-known French texts by authors such as Balzac, Flaubert, Zola, Proust, Gide, Camus and Duras. French majors also will learn understand the role of the French language outside of France by studying francophone texts and films from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Lebanon, and Syria. Students majoring in French are required to participate in an approved program of study abroad. Many French majors choose to study in Paris, Aix-en-Provence, Morocco, or Canada. The Africa Program includes French instruction in Senegal. Financial aid is available for all approved programs. In preparation for study abroad, French students must make an appointment with the chair of the MFL department to discuss and complete the academic guidelines for studying abroad.
