About Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS)

The Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) is located in Moscow.

Established in 1878, GITIS is the largest and oldest art school in Russia. The main strength of the institute is its tradition. GITIS is an institution for professional education developing such disciplines as Acting, Set design, Directing, Musical theatre, Ballet-master, Variety Theatre, Theatre History and Criticism, Theatre Management and production.

With two of GITIS campuses and Student theatre located in the historic city center, famous theatre houses – Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow Art Theatre, Vakhtangov theatre as well as Tchaikovsky Conservatory – foreign students really become a part of the great Moscow’s art life.

All programs are taught in Russian, but students are offered Russian language courses. For entrance exams, more attention is paid to the talent of foreign applicants and not their skills in Russian. The school is proposing summer and winter master classes and schools in English and Chinese.
