You’d be forgiven for thinking of Malta as merely an idyllic holiday destination, but this September GBSB Global Business School will be opening the doors of its new Malta campus and welcoming its first cohort of students.

Choosing where to go to business school isn’t an easy decision – but here are eight reasons why we think you should consider Malta.

Gain a globally recognised degree in English

Malta has two official languages: Maltese and English and the country’s reputation for academic excellence sees students from all over the world coming here to pursue a high-quality and globally recognised degree in English.

At GBSB Global Business School’s Malta campus, students can specialise in digital entrepreneurship, digital communication & PR, digital marketing, fashion & luxury business, finance & fintech, sports and esports management, or general management as part of its three-year, English taught Bachelor of Business Administration and Digital Innovation programme.

You could study on a scholarship

An increasing number of institutions are offering dedicated scholarships for international students – and GBSB Global Business School is one of them. Prospective candidates can apply for one of three scholarships which can cover up to 90 percent of tuition fees for the first academic year.

Graduates are highly valued

Having a business school degree under your belt makes you attractive to employers: you’ve got the specialised skills, knowledge and experience to bring to the table, but what is it about Malta that makes graduates want to stay?

It’s not just the affordable lifestyle and quality of life – but the emerging career opportunities (more on this later), fast-track visas, free support for those who want to start a new business and tax breaks designed to help meet Malta’s rising demand for highly trained professionals.

Emerging business tech career opportunities

Malta boasts one of the fastest growing economies in Europe and its reputation in business – particularly gaming, blockchain and digital banking – makes for exciting career opportunities in these emerging industries. In fact, many of the country’s top jobs are in tech start-ups and major international companies.

Over the years, Malta has invested heavily in online gaming, finance and technology and was the first EU state to regulate the online gaming and blockchain industries. It has since been named a top 10 country to study blockchain due to its ‘progressive approach to cryptocurrencies’, according to Blockchain Council.

Students who are interested in this fast-moving field can enhance their knowledge and understanding with the finance & fintech specialisation as part of GBSB Global Business School’s Bachelor of Business Administration and Digital Innovation.

Be part of a growing international network

Boasting a digital start-up scene big enough to rival Barcelona’s, Malta is a top destination for international conferences in artificial intelligence and digital technologies. The country offers a unique opportunity to be part of a growing international network and work with some of the world’s biggest gaming and digital banking industry giants.

Going to business school here is also a chance to connect with a cohort of like-minded, talented individuals who may become lifelong friends and who you can build a valuable, professional network with. Students at GBSB Global Business School benefit from industry visits and meetings with company leaders and owners, as well as career workshops with leading industry experts to enhance their industry insights, career prospects and professional network.

A chance to explore, relax, eat and drink to your heart’s content

The Blue Grotto and the Blue Lagoon, along with picturesque harbour towns like Marsaxlokk and UNESCO World Heritage sites including the seven megalithic temples, the hypogeum, and even the capital city of Valletta, all offer fascinating insights into Malta’s unique history.

Malta also boasts a wide range of outdoor pursuits for those who enjoy adventure and new experiences. It’s a great place to live if you love snorkelling or scuba diving (or both), as well as other activities like paragliding, rock climbing and abseiling.

When it comes to food, you’ll be spoilt for choice. For those who enjoy trying new things, rustic local delicacies such as lampuki pie (fish pie), bigilla, (broad beans with garlic), pastizzi (pastry filled with ricotta or mushy peas) and rabbit shouldn’t be missed.

And if all of this sounds a little tiring, there are plenty of beaches that offer ample opportunities for a little bit of relaxation.

Year-round sunshine (almost)

For 300 days of the year, Malta is graced with glorious sunshine. Its Mediterranean climate sees the average temperature in the summer top 30°C (86°F), while in winter, the temperature doesn’t tend to drop lower than 15°C (59°F).

Comfortable and affordable lifestyle

Living and studying in Malta is a great experience and compared to other popular study destinations, it is considered one of the safest countries in the world and also more affordable.

Keep in mind that more sought-after places such as Valletta, St Julian’s and Sliema tend to mean higher living costs compared to quieter towns and villages. It is recommended that you budget between €500 and €1000 per month for your accommodation, groceries, transport and entertainment.

Health insurance is another important consideration. EHIC card holders can access the same healthcare at the same price as Maltese citizens. For those who are not EHIC card holders, it is important that you take out health insurance that is valid for the duration of your studies.
