The PhD in Literary Studies (Chinese) programme aims to: foster scholars who are well-versed in ancient and modern Chinese language and literature as well as related theories; enhance capacity for independent research and publication of research findings;; and enable candidates to produce high-quality doctoral theses. Through this programme, students will be able to: Examine related-theories in ancient and modern Chinese language and literature; Skillfully and accurately conduct independent research and publication of research findings; and Produce high-quality doctoral dissertations. Features of the programme include: In-depth research into specific aspects of Chinese literature; Excellence in academic research in Chinese literature and innovative findings in the field; and Courses spanning two semesters followed by the writing of a doctoral dissertation.

  • General Entry (for Master’s Degree Holders): Possess a Master’s degree or academic background recognized as equivalent by the University of Macau.
  • Accelerated Entry (for UM Master Students): Have been registered in a Master’s Programme at the University of Macau for at least one year. Have successfully finished the coursework part with outstanding performance and have demonstrated strong research ability.
  • Direct Entry (for Bachelor’s Degree Holders): Possess a Bachelor’s degree with outstanding performance and have demonstrated strong research ability
  • College English Test (CET) score is acceptable to some academic units, please visit corresponding website of each academic unit for details.
