The Master of Applied Cybernetics (Advanced) is a 1.5 year full-time (or equivalent part-time) degree that provides students with:



  • Advanced skills in managing cybernetic systems from critical thinking and questioning, to an understanding of how the technology relates to the regulatory environment. 
  • A solid understanding of the machine and human components of a cyber-physical system, including their historical context.

Students first enrol in the Master of Applied Cybernetics (see admissions requirements: https://programsandcourses.anu.edu.au/2025/program/MACYB#admission-requirements)
After successful completion of the first semester of the Master of Applied Cybernetics, students can apply to transfer to the Master of Applied Cybernetics (Advanced).


Admission requirements:
  • 24 units of successfully completed courses from the ANU Master of Applied Cybernetics 
  • A 3-page research plan for the project, including a timeline of work across the semester
  • Written confirmation of supervision from a proposed supervisor.


Applicants seeking to transfer from the Master of Applied Cybernetics are required to submit a 3-page research plan for their project, including a timeline of work across the semester, and written confirmation of supervision from a proposed supervisor to CSS Student Services. 


Applicants meeting the above minimum admission requirements will submit a portfolio, and participate in an interview process as detailed on the School of Cybernetics website https://cybernetics.anu.edu.au/education/masters/
