Bukhara Engineering-Technological Institute (also called Bukhara Institute of Engineering and Technology) is the oldest university in Bukhara region. Initially, the institute was established as Bukhara Evening General Technical Faculty of Tashkent Polytechnical Institute named after Abu Rayhan Beruniy in 1959 and on July 21, 1972, it was transformed into a branch of the Tashkent Polyte chnic Institute based on the Decision adopted by the Soviet Union Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education. Finally, From September 1, 1978, the unique independent Bukhara Institute of Food and Light Industry Technology in Central Asia began its independent work and, as a result, in 2013 changed its name into present name. There are 14773 students, 8 faculties, 36 departments, 56 Bachelor's, 38 Part-Time education programs and 27 Master's programs in the Institute. Additionally, there are 19 bachelor's and 3 master's programs on the bases of Double Degree Programms with Latvian, Malaysian, Russian and Belorussian leading universities. The Institute is cooperating with more than 90 leading universities of the world from 20 countries. A number of professional teaching staff is 611 professionals 37 of whom are the Doctors of Science and Professors and 223 are candidates of Science and Associate Professors. The main aim of the institute is to train highly qualified specialists who can realize the strategic tasks arising from reforms in the light industry, oil and gas industry, modern technologies and other areas of production. Based on the main aims, the followings are the main tasks of the institute: - High-quality training, retraining and upgrading of highly qualified pedagogical and specialist personnel at the level of international standards for the high education system in the country; -Making proposals for the development of state educational standards, curricula and programs for relevant pedagogical directions and specialties, developing scientific and pedagogical literature; -Coordination of scientific-pedagogical and educational-methodical activities and implementation of complex spiritual-educational work designed to develop pedagogical personnel into mature, competitive specialists in all respects; -Introduction of modern pedagogy, multimedia and information and communication technologies into the educational process; -Organization of the process of retraining general secondary, secondary special, vocational education pedagogic personnel and improving their qualifications; - Implementation of joint scientific projects, to attract foreign specialists to the scientific-educational process, to develop cooperative relations with foreign pedagogical higher education institutions and scientific centers; - Development of science through the research and creative activities of scientific and pedagogical staff and students, using the obtained results in the educational process; - Performance of scientific research and development on the bases of contracts according to the orders of legal entities and individuals; - Preparation and publication of educational literature and monographs; - Creation the necessary conditions for employees and students for mental and creative activity, sports and recreation; - Development of the material and technical base of the institute.
