Alnoor University began as a seed planted with sincere aspirations in the soil of Nineveh. Over time, it grew and matured into a leading Iraqi private university, committed to complementing public universities and contributing effectively to the advancement of the higher education system. Since its establishment, the University has faced demanding circumstances and multiple challenges, which it overcame with determination and resilience. In April 2024, it marked a significant milestone by becoming the first private university in Nineveh Governorate.
In 2026, Alnoor University continues its academic journey with steady progress and sustained growth. It comprises eleven colleges across the medical, health, technical, engineering, administrative, and humanities clusters, in addition to forty-four academic departments. Several of these departments are distinctive at the local level, while others hold a strong standing nationally and regionally.
The University has provided a comprehensive learning environment for its students, including modern classrooms and advanced laboratories equipped with up-to-date instruments and equipment required for practical and applied study. Its educational dental clinics continue to fulfil both training and community-service functions through 115 dental chairs, offering free therapeutic services to more than 250 patients per day.
In line with its social responsibility, Alnoor University strengthens its connection with the local community by preserving and promoting cultural heritage and stimulating related research and scholarship. This is pursued through the Department of Archaeological Tourism and the Alnoor Center for Heritage Preservation, alongside the University’s annual tradition of organizing Mosul Heritage Day. The University also maintains a firm commitment to environmental protection through smoke-free campus policies, adoption of solar energy, operation of a medical-waste incinerator, deployment of recycling equipment, and the implementation of sustainable afforestation programs.
To keep pace with digital transformation, the University has adopted integrated electronic systems in 2026, including digital portals and electronic payment services. It has also continued to develop a smart bus fleet to transport students between their residential areas and the campus through organized routes covering neighbourhoods of Mosul and surrounding districts.
Research is a core priority at Alnoor University. By 2026, the number of scientific studies produced by the University has reached approximately 2,000 publications at both local and international levels, reflecting the productivity of its academic staff and their contribution to knowledge and society.
In terms of institutional excellence, the University has entered a number of global rankings, and several of its departments have achieved notable positions in national classifications. It has also concluded scientific and academic cooperation agreements with international, regional, and local universities, strengthening scholarly exchange and supporting academic program development.
At the postgraduate level, Alnoor University continues to offer programs in partnership with Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Malaysia—particularly in Engineering Management—while also attracting Arab and international faculty members and welcoming Arab and international students. In alignment with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s “Study in Iraq” initiative, the University allocates an annual full scholarship in each department.
Alnoor University also remains active in organizing international scientific conferences inside and outside Iraq. By 2026, the number of conferences organized has reached approximately 35, in addition to hosting dozens of scientific workshops, seminars, and panel discussions each year—initiatives that support future-oriented thinking and promote rigorous academic dialogue.

Nineveh has long been known to have “two springs”…
Mosul offers a relatively affordable cost of living for students. Rental prices are generally low compared with many large cities; however, the University does not provide on-campus family housing, so students typically arrange accommodation independently in nearby neighbourhoods. Food is another advantage of living in Mosul: students can access a wide range of fresh, delicious local cuisine and reasonably priced meals. In addition, the University supports students’ mobility through free transportation services on organized routes, which helps reduce monthly expenses and makes commuting convenient.
This recognition highlights the university’s commitment to sharing accurate, comprehensive data with QS. While not included in this year’s published rankings, the institution plays an active role in the global academic community and contributes to a more complete picture of higher education in the region.
