The Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages Programme (TESOL) programme seeks to promote the effectiveness of English language teaching through providing advanced training in English teaching. In addition to the enhancement of theoretical and practical knowledge in second/foreign language teaching and learning, the programme also aims at refining students’ teaching skills, developing their abilities to reflect on their own practice and fostering their cultural awareness essential for them to thrive personally and professionally in the increasingly culturally diverse society of Macao and the world at large. It is also designed to educate students as independent and innovative classroom-based researchers in the field of second and foreign language education. Graduates of the programme are expected to have attained advanced knowledge in second language teaching and learning and professional expertise in teaching and research. It is designed for English language teachers, teacher educators and language professionals working in areas of English language teaching, curriculum design and planning, materials development and assessment in Macao, Mainland China or overseas.

An applicant of a Master’s degree programme must possess a Bachelor’s degree or academic background recognized as equivalent by the University of Macau. An applicant may also be required to possess other knowledge or professional experience. Applicants should have achieved the equivalent of an overall result of Grade C+ or better in the Bachelor’s degree studies.
