Programme overview

Main Subject

Data Science and Artificial Intelligence

Degree

MSc

Study Level

Masters

Study Mode

On Campus

Learn to design and interrogate AI systems with a clear understanding of human behaviour. As more organisations automate and move services online, there’s growing demand for people who understand both Artificial Intelligence (AI) and User Experience (UX).

We’re the first UK university to offer an MSc that brings together AI, UX research and applied psychology in one programme. Alongside a thorough grounding in data and AI techniques, you’ll explore theoretical concepts and test them in practice.

You’ll learn how to:
  • Apply psychology and AI principles when you design and evaluate systems.
  • Enrich AI solutions through robust UX research and interaction design.
  • Use data, AI and applied psychology to inform and iterate prototypes.

You’ll also examine the ethical responsibilities that come with developing AI applications, and what “responsible” human-centred AI looks like in real products and services.

This MSc is deliberately practical, with projects, group work and – where possible – work placements, so you graduate with a portfolio of evidence as well as a degree.

We normally look for at least a 2:2 honours degree in a relevant subject. We’ll also consider applicants from other backgrounds who can demonstrate strong quantitative or technical skills and a clear interest in AI, data and user experience, and we may take relevant professional experience in areas such as software development, UX, data analysis or related fields into account.

Use the UK and International entry tabs to check the qualifications we accept, then use your application to tell us about any coding, UX or digital projects you’ve undertaken and any relevant work experience.
