Psychology is a 'pocket of excellence' (REF UoA4) within the ESRC-funded Scottish Graduate School of Social Science (SGSSS) Doctoral Training Partnership. This enables us to offer SGSSS-funded (1+3) degree opportunities – see the Postgraduate Research Funding page for full details. 
We have two pathways available for postgraduate research study in psychology: 
(1) Postgraduate Research degrees: MbR, MPhil, PhD We offer research degrees in areas aligned with staff interests, with our research strengths in Development, Learning and Evolution (DVLE), Communication and Cognition (C&C), and Policing, Security and Forensic Science (PFSF). 
This pathway is suitable for you if you have a relevant academic background and your primary motive is academic, focused on investigating a specific research question(s) in an area of psychology.

The minimum entry requirement for all our research degrees is an Upper Second Class Honours degree (or equivalent) at undergraduate level in an appropriate discipline and/or a Master’s degree.  Degree studies must include an independent research component evidenced in the degree transcript, such as dissertation, project, or thesis.
