When comparing study abroad options, finding a university with a welcoming, diverse student community can make the prospect of studying far from home less daunting.

A focus on internationalisation brings other benefits too, as demonstrated by the European University Cyprus (EUC).

Through strategic partnerships and international collaborations, EUC has leveraged a global focus into academic strengths, improving the student experience and providing graduates with the access and skillsets required for their careers.

Creating a global university

As a proud member of Galileo Global Education, Europe’s largest higher education group, representing 65 institutions and more than 300,000 students worldwide, European University Cyprus draws on a powerful global network of expertise, collaboration, and academic innovation.

This affiliation reinforces EUC’s role as a trusted European university committed to quality, inclusion, and impact, and has been supplemented by a wider international strategy.

EUC’s establishment of a Frankfurt Campus in Germany marks a major milestone in this strategy, extending the reach of its internationally recognised School of Medicine to one of Europe’s most dynamic academic and healthcare centres.

This expansion reinforces EUC’s role as a European university of global impact and its commitment to delivering high-quality, internationally relevant medical education.

EUC is the only university in Cyprus — and one of the few in Europe — to participate in the Universities Alliance of the Belt and Road Initiative, advancing academic, cultural, and research collaboration across continents with mainland Chinese universities.

EUC has also co-founded the first Centre for Chinese Studies in Cyprus with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and collaborates with the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (UCASS) in Beijing, strengthening research cooperation and reinforcing Cyprus’ role as a bridge between Europe and Asia.

How internationalisation creates academic quality

This outreach and development of global partnerships has strengthened EUC’s reputation around the world with both academics and employers and this is reflected in how the university performs in various global rankings.

EUC has an overall five-star rating in QS Stars, having achieved top distinctions in Teaching, Employability, Global Engagement, Online Learning, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.

The university’s MD Medicine programme also received the maximum five-star rating, reflecting the program’s academic excellence, graduate outcomes, and international recognition.

These achievements highlight European University Cyprus’ strong academic foundations, its dedication to student success, and its position among Europe’s leading universities in higher education.

As a result, EUC has become a European hub for medical education and health sciences research, preparing graduates for impactful careers in healthcare, innovation, and global medicine.

EUC is especially distinguished in Medical and Health Sciences, offering a comprehensive portfolio of 29 programmes, including Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine, 13 of which are unique to Cyprus.

Creating a global impact through research

Research and innovation lie at the heart of EUC’s mission. Over the past five years, the university has tripled its research funding and tripled its Scopus-indexed publications, reaching over 500 peer-reviewed papers annually.

EUC currently leads over 70 active research projects, with total funding exceeding €10 million, supported by European, national, and private funding bodies.

EUC’s research excellence is powered by its distinguished faculty, several of whom were included in the World’s Top 2% Scientists List (2024) published by Stanford University and Elsevier.

This ranking, based on Scopus bibliometric data, highlights the global scientific impact of researchers across 22 fields and 174 subfields, capturing both career-long and single-year influence.

With expanding international collaborations, active participation in European research frameworks, and a strong focus on societal impact, EUC continues to strengthen its reputation as a dynamic research hub in Europe.

A multicultural environment that’s welcoming for everyone

EUC is home to a vibrant international community, with students and faculty from more than 70 nationalities. Nearly one in three students comes from outside Cyprus, creating a rich multicultural environment that enhances learning, collaboration, and global awareness.

Through exchange programs, international partnerships, and multicultural campus life, EUC offers students a truly international education experience that’s European in foundation, yet global in perspective.
