With the continuous evolution of knowledge and surgical methodologies, a distinct subspecialty focused on digestive disorders was established in Indonesia back in 1979, under the auspices of the Indonesian Association of Digestive Surgery. This specialized domain has paved the way for the emergence of digestive surgeons, highly skilled in the areas of prevention, therapeutic intervention, and the restoration of health for patients grappling with digestive system disorders or necessitating surgical treatments This specialized proficiency has evolved into an integral facet of the skill set acquired by graduates of the Subspecialty Program in Digestive Surgery, offered within the Faculty of Medicine at Universitas Airlangga In pursuit of heightened competence, a series of initiatives have been undertaken, encompassing the formulation of competency benchmarks, curriculum refinement, and the establishment of nationwide final assessments tailored to aspiring practitioners in the distinctive realm of digestive surgery.
