More programs from the university

Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University (ATU) is a public university that operates under the supervision of the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It was established in 2014 as a result of the reorganization of the Technical Education Authority (TEA), which was founded in 1969. Located in the Al-Furat Al-Awsat province of Iraq, ATU comprises four technical colleges and eight technical institutes specializing in various disciplines. These institutions are spread across five major cities within the province.

ATU provides a wide range of academic programs, including Diploma, Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees in fields such as medicine, engineering, administration, agriculture, and applied arts. With a dedicated faculty of 1,095 professors and instructors, the university boasts a highly qualified team holding Master's and Ph.D. qualifications. The duration of study at ATU varies depending on the program. Technical colleges offer full-time, in-class education lasting four years, while technical institutes provide two-year program

Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University (ATU) has four technical Colleges, namely Technical College of Engineering / Najaf Campus, college of heath and medical technologies / Kufa Campus, College of administration and management technologies / Kufa Campus, and  Al-Mussiab Technical college / Al-Mussiab Campus.

The Technical College of Engineering / Najaf consists of six scientific departments: Aeronautical engineering, Aeronautical electronic engineering, power mechanics engineering, communication engineering, Laser and electro-optics engineering, and civil engineering departments.  College of medical and health technologies consists of three scientific departments; Department of Medical Laboratory Technologies,  Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care Techniques, and  Department of Community Health Technologies. Similarly, the Administrative and management technical college has three scientific departments, including  Accounting Technologies, banking, finance technologies, and  Information Technology. Technical college / Al-Mussiab site has four scientific departments like  Building and Construction Technology Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering, Pump Technology Engineering, and Agricultural Machinery Technology Engineering.

Study programs in all above indicated scientific departments prolonged for eight semesters of full-time enrollment. It consists of 70% theoretical knowledge and 30% practical ones. Formal written exams are conducted at the end of each semester, at which 50% is a satisfactory mark to pass each course. Study programs also include compulsory summer practical training schemes for students in years three and four. As part of the ATU development scheme, the university is keen to update all existing labs and their scientific instrumentation for both its under and post-graduate students. It also provides all non-local students with in-campuses accessible accommodations. ATU also offer complimentary food, especially for those students experiencing financial hardships, to help them complete their study.

Postgraduate studies at Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University (ATU)) play an essential role in the university's strategic plans and mission by providing outstanding and distinguished knowledge in research. Postgraduate studies were first established within the 2000-2001 academic year at the Technical college of Al-Mussiab. This was a Master's degree program in Animal Production and welfare, followed by the Master of  Biological Resistance in the 2002-2003 academic year. Within 2010-2011, a Ph.D. Programs in Animal Production and Biological Resistance and Master's study in Soil and Water Technologies were introduced at the same facility. Later, a Master's study in Satisfactory analysis was offered by the College of Health and Medical Technology / Kufa during the 2016-2017 academic year. During the following academic year, 2017-2018, the technical college of Engineering / Najaf offered Master's studies in Communication and Power Mechanics Engineering, while Master's study in Business Administration was introduced by the Technical College of Administration / Kufa site.

ATU is keen to expand its postgraduate studies dramatically within the upcoming academic years as a part of its strategic plans for Master and Ph.D. qualifications. It should be mentioned that all Master's and Ph.D. study programs offered by ATU are mixed of courses and research. In other words, ATU does not provide Master's and Ph.D. courses or research only. Master's degree program required four semesters of full-time study, and these could be extended to six semesters subject to formal supervisor and university approval. Likewise, Ph.D. requires six semesters that could be extended to eight semesters of full-time study. Postgraduate enrolled students are required to successfully pass the number of advanced compulsory scientific-related courses with no less than 60% for individuals and 70% on average. The postgraduate branch sets and designs such courses in a particular scientific facility and approves by the university scientific council and the ministry of higher education and scientific research / Republic of Iraq. Postgraduate students are also required to publish their research outcomes in internationally recognized scientific journals and participate in international conferences as a part of their graduation requirements.

ATU provides all postgraduate students with all scientific and financial aids to complete their programs. These included free access to the internet, laptops, labs, and other scientific facilities. It also conducts unique annual review panels that monitor and facilitate their study progress.
