The dual degree program in law and public administration is designed for students interested in examining the integral relationship of law to public administration and management. The program is especially attractive to attorneys who seek to practice and innovate in the political, governmental, and not-for-profit realms. This dual degree program provides a broad theoretical grounding in public administration and management as well as a practical education in the analysis and implementation of policy and laws at all levels of government. Application. Candidates for the dual degree program must qualify for admission to the LLM and MPA programs. The School of Public Affairs accepts LSAT scores in place of the GRE scores normally required for admission. For entering LLM students, applications for this program are first reviewed and acted upon by the law school. Upon admission to the law school, the application is forwarded directly to the School of Public Affairs for that school’s review and decision. Currently enrolled LLM students may apply during their studies at the law school. Dual Degree Requirements Master of Laws and Public Administration: LLM/MPA. Students must satisfy all requirements for the master of laws at the Washington College of Law and all requirements for the master of public administration at the School of Public Affairs. Students must complete successfully 18 semester hours of law courses and 24 semester hours of MPA courses. Of the MPA courses, 6 semester credits approved by the law school will be applied to the LLM degree for a total of 24 credits for the LLM degree. Up to 18 credit hours in law school courses may be credited toward the MPA requirements upon approval by the School of Public Affairs. The law school’s LAW - 892 The Washington Lawyer seminar, or The American Lawyer, LAW-580, may fulfill one of the two research course requirements for the MPA. One of the law school’s administrative law courses approved by the LLM Program must be completed satisfactorily to fulfill the MPA’s core requirements.Read less

Applicants must have a bachelor's degree (or its equivalent) earned at an accredited college or university; A 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or better cumulative grade point average (GPA) calculated on the last 60 credit hours of course work completed in your undergraduate program and available at the time of application for admission; A 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or better GPA in all relevant graduate work for which a grade has been awarded. Other English Language Requirements: Pearson Test of English (PTE) score of 53 or higher.
