QS World University Rankings

Established in 1919, Baku State University (BSU) is the oldest and the largest university in Azerbaijan. We are delighted to be renowned as the country's top educational institution, where the most significant figures in the history of the Republic of Azerbaijan studied. We currently have 16 faculties with over 3000 personnel, with professors and teaching staff accounting for nearly half of the total. More than 26,000 undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate students enroll. We continue to expand as one of the leading universities in the region, embracing innovative ideas in education, building capabilities for future generations, targeting to achieve excellence in science and research, facilitating intercultural dialogue for knowledge exchange and transfer, and setting new educational standards in the country.

BSU is partnering with more than 100 partner universities all over the world and welcomes students from more than 32 countries. The university conducts an exchange of students and staff under the programs Erasmus + KA 107 and Mevlana. Moreover, BSU offers 7 double degree programs with the Universities from USA, Germany, France, Israel, Switzerland, and Kazakhstan. In 2015, the UNESCO Department of Human Rights and Information Law was established at the University.

BSU is a member of various esteemed associations and institutions, including the Eurasian Universities Union (EURAS), the Eurasian Universities Association (EAU), the Association of State Universities of Caspian Region Countries, the Black Sea Universities Network (BSUN), Azerbaijan-Russia Association of Higher Education Institutions, CIS International Innovation Centre for Nanotechnology, the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW), EIFL (Electronic Information for Libraries) and currently, work is underway to become a member of the Federation of Universities of the Islamic World, which operates under ICESCO and European Universities Association (EUA). There are 5 international centers or institutes at BSU. (Confucius Institute, Baku King Sejong Institute, Korean Information Technology Centre, Russian Centre, Kazakh Centre named after Abay Kunanbayev)

As being one of the key factors in the development strategy of BSU, scientific research plays a vital role as an integral part of education. Thus, the university has two research institutes - Institute of Physical Problems and Institute of Applied Mathematics, and the Excellence Centre for Research, Development and Innovation. Moreover, BSU has also 2 educational and practical centers in the regions (Altygach and Guba districts), as well as a Kazakh branch in the region. There are also Young Talents Lyceum and College of Economics and Humanities.
