About Universidad de Guadalajara (UDG)
The University of Guadalajara (UdeG) is a public and autonomous university network in the Mexican state of Jalisco, combining an international vision with a strong social commitment.
A tradition of constant innovation and academic excellence has established UdeG as one of Mexico’s leading institutions. Its high school, undergraduate, graduate, and research programs are designed to promote culture and sustainable, inclusive development at local, national, and global levels.
The university is a powerhouse for scientific and technological knowledge and the development of human capital. It boasts over 2,552 members in the National System of Researchers, 312 postgraduate programs recognized by the National Council of Science and Technology (CONAHCYT), and 21 undergraduate programs also acknowledged internationally It has 164 undergraduate educational programs and 314 postgraduate educational programs.
With a vibrant community of 344,540 students, UdeG operates through 19 campuses and a virtual university system throughout Jalisco. This enrollment includes 188,975 high school students and 155,565 students in undergraduate and graduate programs.
Beyond academics, the University of Guadalajara is a cultural pillar; the artistic wealth and cultural life of Western Mexico are intrinsically linked to the university’s pioneering contributions.

Students from higher education institutions worldwide are welcome to study at the University of Guadalajara. Your admission status is determined by your home university's relationship with UdeG.
If you come from a partner institution, your stay will be classified as an exchange, and you will be exempt from paying tuition fees. If your institution does not have a specific agreement, you are welcome to apply as an Independent Student , in which case applicable tuition fees will apply.
Regardless of your admission path, there are three types of academic mobility available according to your goals: completing academic coursework, participating in research projects, or undertaking professional internships.
General
UdeG is a key actor in generating and promoting cultural activities in the state. Plus: Jalisco´s Public Libraries Network, museums, galleries, theaters and sport facilities.
Student life
As an exchange student, you will have the same rights and responsibilities as any UdeG student, as outlined in the University's General Regulations .
The Scholarship and Exchange Unit at your University Centre will be your primary point of contact during your academic stay. The staff is there to assist with your integration process, help you navigate the campus and its services, and provide support with any administrative needs.
It is highly recommended that you obtain your Student ID card . In addition to serving as official identification during your stay in Mexico, it provides access to special benefits, such as free or discounted entry to museums and cinemas, as well as discounts on local and nationwide transportation.

Frequently Asked Questions
International students can join UdeG through two main pathways:
· Exchange Students: If your home university is a partner institution, you can study at UdeG for a semester or year with a full tuition waiver.
· Independent Students: If there is no specific agreement, you can apply as a visiting student (fee-paying) to take courses, conduct research, or undertake internships. Check with the Scholarship and Exchange Unit at your desired University Centre for specific guidance.
There are three main modalities for international mobility:
· Subjects: Enrolling in predetermined subjects for one or two semesters.
· Research: Participating in specific research projects under the supervision of UdeG academic staff.
· Internships: Carrying out professional practices or clinical rotations in various fields.
It depends on your admission status. Exchange students coming from partner universities are exempt from paying tuition fees. Independent students (visiting students from non-partner institutions) are required to pay applicable tuition fees. Regardless of status, all students are responsible for their own living expenses, health insurance, and administrative costs (such as the student ID card).
The primary language of instruction at UdeG is Spanish. Therefore, a B1 or B2 level of Spanish proficiency is generally recommended to fully engage with academic coursework. For students looking to improve their language skills, UdeG offers excellent Spanish as a Second Language programs through its specialized language centers.
