This joint program with the department of Economics integrates training in international relations with economics. It provides students with the knowledge and analytical skills to prepare and evaluate economic policies and strategic decision-making in a global setting. This program is fee-based only. This innovative and interdisciplinary program integrates training in international relations and economics. The program focuses on deepening theoretical understanding and enhancing students’ skills and knowledge in data analysis, global politics and global economic affairs. The program aims to equip students with the following skills: A systemic understanding of key concepts and theoretical approaches that have developed and are developing within International Relations and Economics; Literacy in theories of international relations, economics, data analysis, global order and change, and governance; A comprehensive understanding of the nature and scope of the global political and economic systems, as well as the interaction between global and regional-level politics and economies; A comprehensive understanding of the nature and scope of international cooperation and conflict, obtained through a critical and comparative analysis of the political and social processes underpinning this process; An ability to use critical thinking to address concepts and approaches, and to apply them to a range of empirical issues and problems; An appreciation of the importance of evidence-based learning, and an ability to critically and reflexively evaluate their own academic practices, values and ethical principles in designing and conducting research; An ability to carry out both qualitative and quantitative data analysis; and an understanding of the values of open society and the challenges open societies are currently confronted with.
