We offer the widest variety of French courses of any university in the region. You'll learn from professors and instructors who come from diverse francophone regions of Canada, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Within this stimulating learning environment, you'll receive lots of support through our Cercle Français tutoring resource and have the opportunity to be part of a lively and fun French student society.


Courses are available for beginners and for those with a background in French who wish to improve or maintain fluency. Our courses cover all aspects of language learning, linguistics and translation, and provide insight into French and Francophone literature from the middle ages to present day, as well as poetry, theatre, contemporary cinema and media culture.


A great benefit of studying French at Dalhousie is what you will hear. Our faculty is made up of native French speakers from places like Cameroon, France, Lebanon, Quebec and Switzerland. As one of the most diverse groups of educators on campus, students learn distinct variations of spoken French and receive a global cultural education.
