Studying mathematics provides a solid base for every scientific field. It's not just the numeracy you learn here that's applicable to so many intellectual pursuits. Our courses teach you how to think and solve problems. You’ll learn how to make airtight arguments and look for every possible loophole.

Studying mathematics is more than working with numbers, you’ll learn how to think critically and solve problems. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a well-rounded set of courses that will be of use to any student, whether they major in mathematics, economics, oceanography or physics.

Our mathematics program is small, meaning you’ll have smaller class sizes and more opportunities for one-on-one learning. You’ll learn from our award-winning faculty and jump into project work with other students.

Sample courses:

  • Methods for Ordinary Differential Equations
  • Theory of Numbers
  • Classical Game Theory

We offer certificates in actuarial and financial mathematics as well as one in applied and computational mathematics – both useful if you want to apply your mathematical skills professionally after graduation. Students also have the opportunity to complete work terms through the co-op education program.
