This program aims to: Prepare enrolled students to be practitioner engineers by equipping them with electrical & computer engineering knowledge & concepts.This will allow them to practice their work on the highest degree of professionalism and under the best performance standards nationally and internationally; Produce postgraduates who can apply knowledge, and skills to the analysis of realistic engineering problems, to analyze and create specifications, to synthesize, design and test appropriate solutions; Produce postgraduates who have learnt to develop professional motivation and attitude to the practice of engineering and the use of professional standards in planning, executing, and presenting work; Strengthen the capacity of those involved in the program to diagnose engineering problems efficiently and to achieve the optimum desired results with respect to cost and methodology. This includes certain aspects such as: decision-making, leadership, motivation, mobilization, follow-up, project engineering, research work and performance, etc; Improve and renew the engineering knowledge of professional engineers in their area of electrical and computer engineering; Provide students with skills of self-learning and the exercise of personal and institutional renewal, through strategic and operational planning, setting goals, adoption of performance indicators and benchmarks, and good resource engineering; and Actively contribute to the process of institutional development through the provision of excellence in administrative leadership to face future challenges.

Introduction

Dhofar University (DU) is located in the city of Salalah in the Sultanate of Oman. It offers 25 Bachelor Programs in the fields of Arts & Humanities, Business & Management, Engineering, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences through four Colleges. Academic Year, Semester Load and Duration of Study

The academic year is divided into two main semesters (Fall and Spring) of sixteen weeks each and a Summer semester of eight weeks of instruction.

The normal semester load of a Bachelor Program is between 15 to 18 credit hours during Fall and Spring semesters and between 6 to 9 credit hours in Summer semester, depending on the program.

The time limit set for completing the Bachelor Program is not less than four academic years and not more than eight academic years. During the above mentioned period, a student may postpone or withdraw his/her study up to a maximum of four semesters.

Entry Requirements

There are two types of entry requirements for admission to any Bachelor Program at DU.

The entry requirements are same for both domestic and international students.

1)       General Entry Requirements

The applicant must have:

1)       A General Education Certificate or its equivalent, and

2)       Passed the Foundation Program (FP) from DU or any other Higher Education Institution recognised by the Ministry ,

OR

Be exempted from the FP English, Maths and IT courses based on the result of placement tests conducted by DU.

2)       Program-Specific Entry Requirements

These entry requirements are in addition to the general entry requirements, as specified above, and depend on the program of study.

Admission Procedure

Every applicant for Bachelor Program is required to submit an application online through the DU Website ( www.du.edu.om ), and upload color scanned copies of the required documents. The Online admission is the only way through which DU accepts the admission applications. The steps for completing the online admission are set clearly on the DU Website.

Tuition Fees

Tuition fees for the Bachelor Programs are RO 70 per credit hour . This does not include the cost of books, accommodation and transportation.

Graduation Requirements

To receive a Bachelor Degree, a student must:

1)       Complete the required number of total credit hours for the program, which ranges from 120 to 150 depending on the major.

2)       Attain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 65 percent.

3)       Attain a Cumulative Major Grade Point Average (CMGPA) of 70 percent in the compulsory major courses.

Academic Advising

Each student at DU is assigned an academic advisor in the first semester of study, who is a faculty member from the concerned academic department. The role of the academic advisor is to assist the advisee in preparing course schedule for the semester based on his/her “Plan of Study”, support and guide him/her during the university studies, monitor the academic progress, and offer counselling on any academic difficulties the student may experience. The academic advising continues from the day student joins the University till he/she completes the study at DU.

Applications for admission to Postgraduate Programs are accepted twice in a year: for Fall Semester from July 1 to August 25 and for Spring Semester from December 1 to January 31.

In general, for admission to any Postgraduate Program at DU, the applicant must meet the following criteria:

1)       Have a Bachelor Degree in the relevant field or related discipline approved by the MoHERI .

2)       Attained the required CGPA in Bachelor Degree.

3)       Have the required IELTS score as specified by MoHERI

4)       Have the required work experience

5)       Pass the Entrance Exam conducted by the respective College

6)       Succeed in personal interview conducted by College Postgraduate Studies Committee

7)       Pass the specified number of bridging courses recommended by the College Postgraduate Studies Committee

Tuition Fees

Tuition fees for the programs are in the range of RO 90-150 per credit hour, depending on the program . This does not include the cost of books, accommodation and transportation. The tuition fees for the bridging courses is RO 250 per course.

Graduation Requirements

To receive a Postgraduate Degree, a student must:

1)       Satisfactorily complete 30 to 36 credit hours with prescribed CGPA, depending on the program, 

2)       Complete and successfully defend or Master Thesis,

3)       Pass a Comprehensive Examination (for comprehensive examination track only),

4)       Present official evidence of passing IELTS with band 6, or TOEFL with a minimum score of 550, or its equivalent.

Master Thesis or Research Project

Depending on the program, every student has to successfully complete Master’s Thesis or Research Project. The nature, scope, and content of Master’s Thesis is determined by the student in consultation with thesis supervisor. Each Postgraduate Program student is assigned a supervisor for Master Thesis who is a full-time faculty member and whose role is to guide the student in Master Thesis.
