IED is the largest Higher Education Network in the creative field to have maintained a global outlook and a deeply
Italian cultural matrix, since 1966.
IED student training experience is based
on the educational concept according to which knowledge and know-how must

IED site has its own clear identity, shaped by the location where it operates,
which characterises its style, experience and its relations with the local
community.

Rankings & Ratings
IED - Istituto Europeo di Design is one of the top universities in Milano, Italy. It is ranked #151-200 in QS WUR Ranking By Subject 2025.
The first step is to verify the language requirements and academic requirements.
Different courses have different requirements based on the course you would like to undertake. If you wish to study in IED and you want to apply for undergraduate courses we are glad to inform you that all our undergraduate programs start from scratch, you are going to learn everything from the bases, there is no need to be already skilled to attend our UG courses, the most important thing is to show us your passion and motivation. For the Master courses, there are other requirements depending on the course.
For specific master programs, IED might require additional application documents including a portfolio and an Essay, but there are some programmes that introduce you in a short period of time to a new field of design without need of previous knowledge.
As part of your
application, for some of our postgraduate programs, you are asked to provide a
digital portfolio that summarizes your creative identity. The portfolio will
allow you to show the most relevant parts of your personality through your
work. You will document your creative work across various fields, through
pictures and a set of keywords or a short introductory text (500 words
maximum).
Your portfolio can include
drawings/illustrations, graphic design projects, photos, videos, and any
documentation regarding your own interests. IED is more interested in the
creative process and method used, rather than the end result. Make sure to
include it as well on the portfolio.
The creative pieces of work you choose
should indicate your creative potential and, if possible, provide some insight
into your chosen area of study.
The creation of a visual framework is
highly appreciated (presentation or slideshow).
For many years, IED has been involved in
supporting the most motivated and brilliant students, by providing
scholarships, grants, and bursaries based on merit and financial eligibility.
We support young creatives through a dedicated set of scholarships, promotions,
and financial aid. Scholarships are awarded on the merits to particularly
deserving and motivated students, usually evaluated through the submission of
project work, These scholarships can cover
up to 100% of the tuition fee.
International students should start to
look for their program approximately 12 or 6 months before starting their
studies, to collect enough information and all the required documents. The
application is entirely online, We have three different intakes October,
January and April based on the typology of the program you would like to
attend. Although enrolments are open until the above-mentioned intakes, to
comply with the Ministerial entry requirements and its strict quality level,
and to guarantee effective interaction among teaching staff and students, IED
has a restricted number of available places. To ensure a place in the class,
students must have completed the enrolment procedure. Therefore, we strongly
suggest starting the application process as soon as possible.
The Career Service office is available
to companies wishing to recruit young creatives from IED: recent graduates and
Master’s students, but also former students who are now experienced
professionals, through continuous collaboration with the IED Alumni office.
The Career Service submits CVs and
portfolios according to recruitment requirements, supports businesses in the
selection of candidates, organizes interviews, and sets up training
internships. Every year, in order to bring businesses and potential candidates
together, the Career Service organizes one or more Career Days in which recent
graduates are introduced to the companies for the first time and other
selection sessions that include project activities to test the aptitude and
skill of graduates directly in the field with real briefs. On the other hand, the IED Alumni office
fosters synergies between students and many kinds of companies offering job
opportunities.

For the Master courses, there are other requirements depending on the course.
For specific master programs, IED might require additional application documents including a portfolio and an Essay, but there are some programmes that introduce you in a short period of time to a new field of design without need of previous knowledge.
As part of your application, for some of our postgraduate programs, you are asked to provide a digital portfolio that summarizes your creative identity. The portfolio will allow you to show the most relevant parts of your personality through your work. You will document your creative work across various fields, through pictures and a set of keywords or a short introductory text (500 words maximum).
Your portfolio can include drawings/illustrations, graphic design projects, photos, videos, and any documentation regarding your own interests. IED is more interested in the creative process and method used, rather than the end result. Make sure to include it as well on the portfolio.
The creative pieces of work you choose should indicate your creative potential and, if possible, provide some insight into your chosen area of study.
The creation of a visual framework is highly appreciated (presentation or slideshow).
For many years, IED has been involved in supporting the most motivated and brilliant students, by providing scholarships, grants, and bursaries based on merit and financial eligibility. We support young creatives through a dedicated set of scholarships, promotions, and financial aid. Scholarships are awarded on the merits to particularly deserving and motivated students, usually evaluated through the submission of project work, These scholarships can cover up to 100% of the tuition fee.
International students should start to look for their program approximately 12 or 6 months before starting their studies, to collect enough information and all the required documents. The application is entirely online, We have three different intakes October, January and April based on the typology of the program you would like to attend. Although enrolments are open until the above-mentioned intakes, to comply with the Ministerial entry requirements and its strict quality level, and to guarantee effective interaction among teaching staff and students, IED has a restricted number of available places. To ensure a place in the class, students must have completed the enrolment procedure. Therefore, we strongly suggest starting the application process as soon as possible.
The Career Service office is available to companies wishing to recruit young creatives from IED: recent graduates and Master’s students, but also former students who are now experienced professionals, through continuous collaboration with the IED Alumni office.
The Career Service submits CVs and portfolios according to recruitment requirements, supports businesses in the selection of candidates, organizes interviews, and sets up training internships. Every year, in order to bring businesses and potential candidates together, the Career Service organizes one or more Career Days in which recent graduates are introduced to the companies for the first time and other selection sessions that include project activities to test the aptitude and skill of graduates directly in the field with real briefs.
On the other hand, the IED Alumni office fosters synergies between students and many kinds of companies offering job opportunities.
