About Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University
Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University was established by order of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Order No. 329 dated June 6, 1991). The university hosts representatives of 24 Turkic nationalities from 37 countries worldwide. It is classified as a “Full University” with an international status, including a faculty of medicine.
The university makes a significant contribution to the social and cultural life of the city of Turkestan. The city, which has a history of over 1,500 years, is home to more than 300,000 people from 46 different nationalities. One of the university’s notable contributions to Turkestan’s development is the creation of a Botanical Garden spanning 88 hectares. Currently, the garden contains 127 species and varieties of fruit plants, trees, shrubs, and flowers. This Botanical Garden plays an essential role in improving the city’s ecology, providing seedlings for landscaping, and serving as a scientific and educational base for training biologists and ecologists.
Today, the university has a modern infrastructure covering 211,923 square meters, meeting sanitary standards and norms. Its scientific library, with 690 seats, is equipped with modern facilities and offers access to an electronic library. Additionally, study halls in the library provide comfortable conditions for students and faculty. The library has a collection of over 1,000,000 copies of educational, methodological, and scientific literature on general, core, and specialized subjects.
The library provides free access to electronic resources, including the Web of Science, Scopus, Springer Link, and Cochran Library databases, along with Turkey's Ulakbim resources. It is also involved in projects that integrate electronic educational resources into a unified information system, such as the Republican Interuniversity Electronic Library (RIEL) and the Kazakh National Electronic Library (KazNEL).
Over 150 undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and residency programs are accredited at the university. Classes are held in 14 academic and 2 administrative buildings. Facilities include educational laboratories, a simulation center for the Faculty of Medicine, a university clinic, a Botanical Garden, the "Yassy" hotel complex, a production center at the university's cultural center, and two museums (archaeology and history) that provide students with practical experience alongside theoretical knowledge. All educational buildings are equipped with gyms, and the university has eight outdoor sports grounds covering a total area of 46,687 square meters and an indoor swimming pool open year-round. To safeguard students' and staff's health, the "AI" medical outpatient clinic and a diagnostic and treatment clinic, covering a total area of 10,649.8 square meters, have been established and are operational. Additionally, funds from Turkey’s budget have been used to construct a sports complex, courts, sports fields, and a football field.
Over 3,100 students live in eight dormitories, with a total area of 47,464.4 square meters. The university cafeteria, with a capacity of 500 seats, provides meals daily, and its menu is overseen by food technologists. The university administration prioritizes creating optimal living conditions for faculty, offering 10 cottages with 72 apartments. In the summer, recreational areas are available for students and staff, including the Mashat camp and Lake Torankol, covering an area of 70 hectares.
Six research institutes and centers are successfully operating within the university: the “Institute of Ecology Research,” “Institute of Turkology Research,” “Institute of Natural Science Research,” “Institute of Eurasia Research,” “Institute of Yassawi Studies,” “Archaeology Research Center,” and “Sustainable Development Research Center.”
Each year, Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University participates in various rankings of the best universities in Kazakhstan and globally. In the 2025 QS World University Rankings, the university achieved 816th place.
