The School of Finance is being established as a part of Nankai University to meet the needs of the changing international markets. As a pioneer in finance education in mainland China, the school was set up as part of the redevelopment of Nankai University's discipline of Economics. In 2012, the applied Economics (including finance) of Nankai University was rated as a national key discipline by the Ministry of Education in the latest assessment of first-level disciplines. A new campus is being constructed in Jinnan to the highest of international standards for academic institutions, and will provide a conducive environment for academic pursuit and achievement.
The School of Finance of Nankai University is dedicated to both the theory and application of finance, covering both macro and micro aspects. The school is mandated to lead the way in the formulation and adjustment of national macro and micro economic policy by exploring major Chinese concerns from holistic perspective. Other areas of focus will include financial econometrics and quantitative finance, and the analysis of big financial data will be supported by an interdisciplinary platform of the highest standards. At present, the school has 10 teaching and research institutions, namely 6 departments, 4 institutes and several think tank research centers. The six departments are international Finance department, Applied Finance department, Quantitative Finance department, Financial Economics department, Risk Management and Insurance department, and Actuarial Science department. The four institutes are the Institute of Finance, the Institute of Econometrics, the Institute of Real Estate Finance, and the Institute of Risk Management and Insurance. In addition, a new Institute of Digital Finance has been established recently to cultivate talents and deepen research in the cutting-edge field of Fintech.
The School of Finance aims to become a leading school of global finance and a centre of global knowledge. The ideas of distinguished international faculty, research on the forefront of financial globalization, and international standards of education will converge in the campus of Jinnan. A core objective of the school is the creation of international quality research with profound impact. The promotion of research excellence, the fostering of global talents, and the commitment to innovation in teaching form the blueprints of this endeavour. At present, the school of Finance has 66 full-time faculties with PhD degrees, including 16 professors and 21 overseas talents. There are 2 members of the New Century Excellent Talents Support Program of the Ministry of Education, 5 chair professors, 1 honorary professor, 2 members of the Baiqing Team of Nankai University. The financial disciplines of Nankai University have reached the leading level in China in terms of financial risk management, financial asset management, quantitative finance, international finance, financial engineering, insurance, actuarial science, financial leasing, etc. Nankai Finance has enjoyed a good reputation at home and abroad, and alumni from School of Finance have become an important and outstanding force in China's financial industry.
