Based in Beirut and Dubai, the Saint Joseph University of Beirut - Université Saint-Joseph de Beyrouth (USJ) is a private Lebanese university founded by the Jesuits in 1875 and now home to 12,000 students, 400 tenured professors/researchers, 1,600 teachers and 13 faculties, 15 institutes, 7 schools, 5 doctoral programs, 7 academic chairs.Its mission revolves around research, teaching and service to the society.In a multilingual environment seen as a crossroad of cultures and communities, its vision aims for:opromoting excellence in training and relevance in research;odeveloping interreligious dialogue;oencouraging education to citizenship in a multiple communities society;Its values are built around the Jesuit pedagogical tradition.The curricula abide by the European Credit Transfer System and are generally organized in three cycles: a bachelor degree (licence) as a 1st cycle, a master’s degree as a 2nd cycle and a Ph.D. degree (doctorate) as a 3rd cycle.The USJ has five campuses in and around Beirut, three regional centers in North Lebanon, South Lebanon and the Beqaa (Zahle) Region, and one regional center in Dubai. It offers, to its students and staff, facilities such as a dorms building, a sports center and a day care center.The USJ administrates the Hôtel-Dieu de France, one of the largest and best equipped hospitals in Lebanon, which works in close collaboration with the Faculty of medicine and the health related institutions of the University and hosts yearly many student internships and residencies.The USJ initiated Berytech, the first incubator in Lebanon, which developed to three technological poles: Berytech ICT, Berytech Technology & Health, Berytech Digital Park.On the cultural level, the USJ is home to two theaters, two musuems (Lebanese Prehistoty Museum & Museum of Minerals) and a patrimonial library with unique historical manuscripts and photography collections.To encourage international study, the university offers a number of scholarships to fund non-Lebanese PhDs covering tuition fees, medical insurance and a monthly stipend.
