Training of students in the  chemical field  for several years, 2013-2018, was carried out at the chemical department, which is part of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, later reorganized into the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry. At this time, three departments functioned: analytical, organic and inorganic, physical chemistry.

In September 2018, the faculty was renamed into the Faculty of Chemistry, which now has five departments: "Analytical Chemistry", "Inorganic Chemistry and Materials Science", "Organic Synthesis and Bioorganic Chemistry", "Physical and Colloidal Chemistry" and "Chemistry of Polymers and Chemical Technology".

The faculty is training bachelors in the specialties of “Chemistry”, “Chemical technology” and “Materials science and chemistry of new materials”. In the specialties “Chemistry” preparing masters, as well as doctoral students prepare for 6 specialties: "02.00.01-Inorganic Chemistry", "02.00.02-Analytical Chemistry", "02.00.03-Organic Chemistry", "02.00.04-Physical Chemistry", "02.00.06-High-Molecular Compounds" and "02.00.12- Nanochemistry, nanophysics and nanotechnology”.
