Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology is one of the premier higher educational institutions in India, with a high reputation for teaching and research excellence. It was established under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, and has been accredited with ‘A++’ Grade by the National Accreditation and Assessment Council in its third cycle. The Institution is located in Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu, a city of cultural, economic, and historical importance. It is situated on the Rajiv Gandhi Road (earlier known as the OMR), the hub of the IT industry and the most vibrant region with the presence of IT parks and other companies, as well as highly developed infrastructure and excellent connectivity to the rest of Chennai. The Institution offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in various fields, including Engineering, Science, Technology, Law, Dental Science, Pharmacy, Nursing, Humanities and Management.

Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Biotechnology, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Information Technology, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Civil Engineering Programmes are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). Master’s in Business Administration

B.E. Computer Science & Engineering, B.E.  Electrical & Electronics Engineering Program and B.Tech. Biotechnology Programs are accredited by Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

Sathyabama has been ranked 51st among the universities in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), Government of India, for the year 2023. It is placed in the band excellent category for innovation by the NIRF Innovation Rankings 2023. Sathyabama is ranked in the 1001–1200 position by the QS World University Rankings, 2024. According to the QS Asia University Rankings for 2024, it is ranked in the 401-450 position. The Institution has received a Five Star rating from QS Stars. The Institution is ranked in the 1201–1500 band in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024, and with respect to the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2023, it is ranked in the 501–600 band. Times Higher Education has ranked Sathyabama in good positions in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, 2023, in recognition of its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations' Agenda 2030. The Institution has a multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary curriculum with more emphasis on skill-oriented, industry-linked, employment-oriented, and value-added courses. Academic flexibility is enhanced by promoting an interdisciplinary curriculum and the adoption of a Choice Based Credit System (CBCS).
