The overarching aim of the education is to provide candidates with science-based engineering skills for sustainable development of the blue economy.

There is a growing need, both in Denmark and abroad, for expertise in maritime industries – from off-shore energy, shipping, fisheries, marine spatial planning, and coastal engineering – sectors that are expected to grow in coming years. Science-based engineering solution for sustainable blue growth requires both an understanding of the marine environment – both its physical and living components – as well as the knowledge and skill to implement engineering solutions in a marine setting.

This education is a collaborative effort that spans across several DTU Institutes; DTU Aqua, DTU Mechanical Engineering, DTU Space, DTU Wind Energy, DTU Civil Engineering, DTU Management and DTU Environment.

The marine environment presents enormous possibilities for development, the so-called blue economy. The oceans after all represent over 70% of the earth’s surface. However, it also provides ecosystem services that are often undervalued or overlooked. These include regulating global climate, a reservoir of biodiversity, and fisheries production. Responsible development of the blue economy requires both technical expertise and understanding of the ocean environment.

The MSc programme in Ocean Engineering thus covers a wide range of courses in these varied areas. The study programs integrates these into a set of highly valued competences.

You will have the opportunity to work in close collaboration with both Danish and international companies - either as part of the courses, as an individual project or while writing your thesis.

The MSc is a two-year graduate programme with a workload of 120 ECTS credit points.
