An efficient development of new materials requires understanding of the relationship between production technology, structure of matter and material properties. Information about the structure and properties of materials is usually obtained using complementary analytical techniques. The understanding of the above relationships is the first step towards the tailoring of functional properties of materials and components in the production process. For this reason, the material analysis plays a central role not only in the research and development, but also in the production process.

The Master programme Advanced Materials Analysis provides profound insight into techniques for analysis of materials for electronics and optoelectronics, batteries and other functional materials, hard materials, shape memory alloys and construction materials like advanced steels or titanium alloys. Based on a Bachelor’s degree in materials science, physics or chemistry, the students are trained for a career in industry as well as in academia. The strongly methodological character of the Master programme opens the door to many branches of industry, from semiconductor industry over the companies dealing with mechanical engineering up to the metallurgy. Alternatively, the graduates can pursue a career in academic research or join research centres
