Almost half of TSU students study online using e-learning technologies – in 2015, TSU launched an online learning project “Rosdistant“. Original format and higher education programmes taught with the use of an e- learning technologies complex. All university teachers and lecturers are engaged in the project. All educational programs have been adapted for distance learning - more than 3,000 content materials were developed. Currently, students from 22 countries of the world and 85 regions of the Russian Federation (including Moscow and St. Petersburg) choose to study via “Rosdistant”.
Research, development and innovations are one of the TSU keystone interests. According to a number of performance indicators, TSU occupies one of the top positions in Samara Region. The effectiveness of the university innovative infrastructure is evidenced by the creation of 27 small innovative enterprises under the federal law FZ-217 and another 9 enterprises and organisations established by TSU or its employees before the adoption of FZ-217 law. R&D Institute of Advanced Technologies was established on 1 September 2013 for the development and commercialisation of the innovative produce manufactured by specialists in nanotechnologies, materials science, and physics of condensed state. The efficient innovative infrastructure including Testing Centre (accredited in two certification systems), Research and Analysis Centre, Innovative Technological Park, and Regional Design Office for Engineering provides multiple opportunities for research and innovation work.
Over the last five years, the university implemented four government mega-grants (total funding 500+ million rubles). These are three projects aimed at creating state-of-the-art laboratories supervised by leading scientists: "Physics of Strength and Intelligent Diagnostic Systems", "Nanocatalysts and Functional Nanomaterials" and "Metal Materials with Spatial-Gradient Structure"; and a project leading to the establishment of Innovations and Technologies Centre.
