Tashkent University of Information Technologies (Ташкентский Университет Информационных Технологий, often abbreviated ТАТУ, TUIT), in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, was founded as the Tashkent Electro Technical Institute of Communication in 1955 and it was the major and only producer of communication engineers for the Central Asian region. The university was named after Al-Khwarizmi by a presidential resolution to further boost its role within the nation and abroad. Tashkent University of Information Technologies named after Muhammad al-Khwarizmi (TUIT) is a leading technical university of the Republic of Uzbekistan specialized in professional training in the field of Information and Communications Technologies.

Nowadays TUIT is the modern university possessing high scientific and pedagogical potential, wide range of educational communications, developed network of international contacts, highly appreciated level of professional training. There are following educational levels: secondary (6 lyceums), bachelor (8 directions), master’s degree studies (21 specializations), post graduate studies and doctor’s degree studies. The teaching staff is about 500 persons, including 4 academicians, 21 professors, 24 Doctors of Science, 87 candidates of science and associate professors. There are 5 regional branches of TUIT located at different cities like Karshi, Nukus, Samarkand, Urgench and Fergana.

More than 11000 students study at TUIT and its branches. The university has 31 departments and 37 university laboratories, 10 research laboratories and computer centers equipped with own network, modern computers (more than 1800 computers) and multimedia classes (more than 20), information and resource center (library) possessing more than 400000 books

International cooperation with leading European and Asian universities and institutions is being extended. TUIT has cooperation with about 50 universities and more than 30 Scientific Research Institutes of 28 foreign countries. In recent years some educational centers were established wherein students combine university education with such training based on modern technologies.
