Established in 1972, Universidad Simón Bolívar (USB) is considered one of the most prestigious universities in Colombia after being granted High Quality Accreditation by the Ministry of National Education in 2016.

With a dedicated focus on scientific and technological specializations, Universidad Simón Bolívar offers 30 undergraduate degree programs and 50 various postgraduate programs.

Our university facilities are designed and built to support the academic activities of every student, including:

  • Business Growth Center
  • Genetics and Molecular Biology Unit
  • Molecular Simulation and Bioinformatics Laboratory
  • Simulation Medicine Laboratories
  • José Martí library

Every degree program at Universidad Simón Bolívar is delivered in Spanish, and our Foreign Language Institute offers free English, German and French language lessons. 

We also have a wide range of activities led by the University Welfare Department, including sports, arts and cultural events. 

At Universidad Simón Bolívar we welcome students from all over the world and offer housing advice for international students who wish to live near the university campus. Our two campuses, Barranquilla (Atlántico) and Cúcuta (Norte de Santander), are currently home to a number of exchange students from countries including, Mexico, Peru, France, Argentina, and Colombia. 

If you’re an international student who’s interested in studying at Universidad Simón Bolívar, you’ll need to:

  • Verify your academic certificate with the Colombian Institute for the Evaluation of Education (ICFES) using the following link: .
  • Submit a scanned copy of your passport
  • Submit a scanned copy of your student visa (if not of Colombian nationality)
  • Pay the necessary registration fees

Should your application be successful, we’ve established agreements that allow international students to arrive as exchange students for one academic semester and receive help with enrollment, accommodation, and food. This is achieved through mobility platforms including the Ascun PILA Grant, PAME Grant from the Union of Latin American and Caribbean Universities (UDUAL), as well as Alianza del Pacífico. 


100 percent of medical and surgical specialist graduates are in employment after completing their studies at Universidad Simón Bolívar. In addition, medical and surgical specialist graduates earn better salaries than their colleagues from other universities.  

Furthermore, between 80.6 percent and 69.5 percent of graduates from other specializations have found employment.
