Through the MSc in Civil Engineering​​ (By Research) program, take a leadership role in planning, design, risk assessment, contstruction and maintenance of buildings and infrastructure. With in-depth understanding of roads, railways, bridges, tunnels, load-bearing structures and facades, offshores structures, and urban planning, you can even design whole cities. Graduates through this program will be able to: Demonstrate continuing and advanced knowledge and have the capabilities to further develop or use these in new situation or multi-disciplinary contexts; Analyse and evaluate problems in the civil engineering discipline critically particularly in situations with limited information; Appraise available information and research evidence and apply it in the civil engineering context; Plan and perform research undertakings professionally, ethically and responsibly; Report technical findings in both written and oral forms; Recognise the needs for continuing professional development; and Evaluate problems and provide solutions through the application of appropriate tools and techniques in civil engineering.

Candidates must hold a BSc Degree in Engineering/ Engineering Technology discipline with minimum CGPA 2.50/4.00 or equivalent in the relevant field from a recognized university; Candidates with BSc Degree in Engineering/Engineering Technology discipline with minimum CGPA 2.00 but below 2.50,​ can be admitted and must have 5 years working experience & pass UTP internal rigorous assessment; Candidates with BSc Degree qualification from different discipline, must undergo pre-requisite courses​ in Engineering/ Engineering Technology.

Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) was established on 10 January 1997 and is a leading private university in Malaysia. The campus is built on a 400 hectare (1,000 acres) site strategically located at Bandar Seri Iskandar, Perak Darul Ridzuan, Malaysia.
