The Masters in Migrations & Social Justice will introduce you to the study of global migration, including migration processes and the social, political and economic consequences of migration. Unique in Scotland, it addresses questions such as who moves and why, who is allowed to settle and where, what are the roles of states, institutions and civil societies in these processes. This Masters programme can provide the foundation for successful careers in government, the public sector, civil society, or social research, including doctoral research. Some of the students join our programme while already working with migrants, refugees and asylum seekers in a professional capacity. We have very strong links with voluntary and public sector organisations in Scotland and beyond through staff, students’ and alumni’s own professional links. On completing the MSc, you will be equipped to apply your learning to a wide range of opportunities locally, nationally and internationally. This might include working with policy-making bodies, local and national governments, community organisations, NGOs and third sector organisations. The emphasis on applied learning makes this programme relevant to a range of professional settings where graduates may be working with asylum seekers, refugees and migrants, for example in education, social work, housing, equalities, campaigning and advocacy work, community development, human rights advocacy work, social research. The programme will also provide the necessary foundations for further study through doctoral research (PhD).
