To become an expert in the analysis of contemporary societies, choose the Master's Programme in Contemporary Societies (COS).


In this programme, you choose from six major subjects: Global Development Studies, Social and Cultural Anthropology, Social and Public Policy, Social Data Science, Social Psychology, or Sociology. You also study themes like Data and Society, Ethnic Relations and Migration, Mind and Society, Socio-Cultural Shifts and Sources of Inequalities.


As a graduate, you will be qualified to work in both the public and private sectors, in governmental administration or in various types of organisations. You will also have excellent qualifications to continue with an academic career and PhD studies.

You can apply to the master’s programmes at the University of Helsinki to complete the master’s degree if you have one of the following: A degree completed at a university, A degree completed at a university of applied sciences, A degree completed at the Finnish National Defence University, and Education completed outside Finland that provides eligibility for equivalent higher education in the relevant country.
