The MA program is designed for students who, having finished their undergraduate studies, want to equip themselves to pursue ancient philosophy at the doctoral level – by enriching both their grasp of philosophy and intellectual history, and their proficiency in the ancient languages of Greek and Latin. This interdisciplinary program is the only MA program of its kind in North America and only one of a handful of similar programs in the world. The university aims to deliver a high quality learning environment that embeds intellectual curiosity, innovation and best practice in learning, teaching and student support to enable students to achieve their full academic potential.

Admission Requirements

Normally, students will be required to have an Honours Bachelor degree in either Philosophy or Classics with an average grade of B+ or higher in the last two years or last ten half courses. In addition, students will typically be required to have taken an introductory course in at least one ancient language (Greek or Latin).  However, students with only some introductory language training may also be considered for admission. // Online applications must include two letters of reference, a statement of academic interests (250-500 words), a recent writing sample (10-15 pages, double-spaced), one copy of official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate studies, and payment of the required non-refundable fee of $120 CDN. // For further information on admission requirements please check with the University for entry.
