Our BA in Media, Journalism and Culture is a dynamic degree which examines how media and cultural forms shape society, politics, identities and everyday life, particularly in the context of globalisation, digital platforms, inequality and rapid social change. Dive in and explore your passion for popular culture, social media, streaming, music, film, journalism, and more.
Together, we’ll focus on understanding how media and cultural industries work in practice, how content is created, circulated, and used, and how it influences public debate, identity, and popular culture. You’ll explore media, journalism, and culture across a range of platforms and social contexts, engaging with issues such as representation, power, and ethics.
Throughout your degree, you’ll gain a solid grasp of the latest digital tools and platforms, ensuring you’re ready for the ever-changing media industry. You’ll learn to think critically, analyse media content, and find innovative solutions to real-world problems. You’ll also learn to interpret media and cultural texts, evaluate digital platforms and technologies, and assess the social and cultural impact of media practices, while building confidence in presenting and communicating your ideas clearly.
The programme equips you with a combination of subject-specific knowledge and transferable skills valued across media, cultural, and public-facing sectors. You’ll study in a supportive and stimulating environment, taught by experts in media, journalism, and culture, with opportunities for personal development, placements, and careers engagement. This, combined with a deep understanding of the media landscape, will make you a highly sought-after candidate for a wide range of exciting careers. Graduates progress into a wide range of media-related, cultural, public sector, and postgraduate pathways.
This is an academic degree focused on understanding media and culture rather than training journalists or media producers and it doesn’t offer professional accreditation.
