This vast field examines the structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, and distribution of living things. At Rensselaer we emphasize modern molecular and cellular-level biology, providing a strong background in quantitative, physical, and chemical biology. Many biology majors aim for careers in the health professions (medical, dental, veterinary), while others plan for careers in biomedical research. And still others plan for careers that will relate to biology, such as management or law. The undergraduate curriculum in biology is designed to prepare you for admission to graduate or professional school. Program of Study Our program trains students in analytical problem-solving skills using cutting-edge research approaches and technologies. Program Outcome Students who successfully complete this program will be able to demonstrate: An ability to apply process of science including an ability to conduct and interpret experiments. An ability to use quantitative reasoning, use modeling and simulation, analyze and interpret experimental results, and interpret statistical significance measures. An ability to communicate and collaborate with other disciplines, knowledge of interdisciplinary connections, and knowledge of the relationship between science and society. Knowledge of biological evolution Knowledge of the flow, exchange and storage of genetic information Knowledge of pathways and processes of transformations of energy and matter. Knowledge of the structure function relationship in biology An ability to research, prepare, communicate, and present results.
