What areas of Law will I study at Lancaster? Our fast-track course in Law is tailored for graduates of any discipline to embark on an exciting career in the legal profession. You’ll be taught by our School of Law staff who combine extensive expertise in teaching with cutting edge research in areas such as Commercial and Corporate Law, Human Rights, International Law, Technology Law and Criminal, Civil and Family Justice. You’ll receive a thorough foundation in the legal system gaining a good understanding of Law in context and wider societal issues.
What practical experience does the course offer? Hands-on experience can give you the edge in your career and a real taste of working within the profession. You can take part in our Law Clinic where you will interview clients and, supervised by a qualified solicitor, offer free legal advice to the local community on a range of areas including contract law, consumer disputes, and wills and probate. You can join the Street Law project and deliver interactive sessions out in the community on topics like cyberbullying.
What are the professional, networking and social opportunities? We have strong links to Chambers, Law firms and related professions from across the UK, including Magic Circle firms from London. There are a range of beneficial activities and events on offer including:
Who is the Graduate entry LLB for? The course is open to both UK graduates and overseas students looking to make a move into the legal profession. You will enter with an existing degree in any subject, and the course will provide you with options for progression onto a variety of pathways. Overseas students particularly may find the course a cost competitive option for entry into professional practice in their home country.
Your career pathway Our modules are focussed on your future career. Your two-year Graduate Entry LLB will open up a range of pathways in the legal profession. If you are planning to continue your career in England and Wales, you’ll acquire the knowledge and skills to help you take the next steps to qualification as a solicitor and pass the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) or to start professional training to be a barrister. You may also choose to work in a legal capacity in local government, in a corporate setting or for a charity or non-profit organisation.
Students from Canada will gain exemptions from further vocational qualifications.
