Student life
City life
With up to 40,000 students in town, Oxford is a great place to live and learn – it’s young, diverse and energetic. Whether you’re looking for pubs or clubs, riverbanks or green spaces, busy markets with great street food or brand names in the Westgate, Oxford has it covered. In terms of culture, the city has important museums like the Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers as well as contemporary art galleries (Modern Art Oxford), lots of venues for live music, and theatres ranging from bigger spaces like the Oxford Playhouse to more intimate ones like the Old Fire Station and the Pegasus. Oxford is home to many beautiful parks to relax in with friends, exercise or even revise in. What's more, Oxford is just over an hour away from other major cities including London and Bristol.
A hub for social activities, Brookes Union helps students get involved in the wider university life. Over 80 clubs and societies are run through the Union, giving you great opportunities to meet new people with shared interests. The Union also runs a bar on Headington Campus and works with partners to put on club nights and events. The Union’s other key purpose is providing students with support through its independent advice service.
Sport
Oxford Brookes is a great university for sports. In particular, it’s a top university for rowing, with Brookes students and alumni having achieved Olympic successes.
Brookes Sport offers opportunities for everyone, whether you are looking to take up a new sport, get fit, or simply relax. Facilities include a gym, swimming pool, climbing wall, and regulation-size sports pitches for University fixtures.

Selecting the right scholarship can be a daunting process. With countless options available, students often find themselves overwhelmed and confused. The decision can be especially stressful for those facing financial constraints or pursuing specific academic or career goals.
To help students navigate this challenging process, we recommend the following articles:
Oxford Brookes’ courses connect students with the world of work. They enable you to develop workplace skills, and help open doors into those workplaces. Placements and the chance to work on live projects can help you build a store of experience and practical knowledge. Skills development is built into most courses, and staff will motivate you to take every chance to expand your abilities. Networking and mentoring schemes link students to business people and professionals who can offer tips and insights.
In fact, 91% of Brookes students are in employment and/or further study within six months of graduating (HESA Graduate Outcomes Survey 2018/19 – published July 2021), and many earn more than the UK average compared with those graduating from a similar course (Destination of Leavers of Higher Education).
And in 2020, full-time employed postgraduates earned on average £7,000 more than other graduates (UK government graduate labour market statistics 2021)
Careers Service
Oxford Brookes has a dedicated careers centre offering a range of services including help with job searching, 1-to-1 CV guide consultations, interview advice and employability training. The online portal allows you to search for jobs, from part-time work during your studies to graduate opportunities and internships.
Careers support advice is available to our graduates for up to three years after graduating.
