About Applied Science University - Bahrain

The Applied Science University (ASU) is located in East Al-Ekir, Kingdom of Bahrain.

Established in 2004, ASU was one of the first private universities in the Kingdom of Bahrain and is situated in the Central Governorate, between Manama and Riffa.

The Applied Science University offers 18 (undergraduate and postgraduate) programs, with more than 5,000 alumni, and staff from over 22 countries. The university offers two international Engineering programs from well-respected university in the United Kingdom -London South Bank University (LSBU).

ASU achieved 4 Stars in QS Stars Rating System; ranked 29th in the QS Arab Region University Rankings; Ranked 101-150 in QS World University Ranking – Top 50 under 50.

The programs are taught in both English and Arabic. The university also has its English Language Unit, offering supplementary English language courses for those who wish to improve and enhance their English language skills and prepare them for the higher education system.

Available programs

There are a number of undergraduate courses available at ASU:

 

Prospective undergraduate students are required to provide:

  • Original Certificate & Transcript of secondary school
  • Equivalency of non – Bahraini general secondary school certificate or private school’s certificate
  • A valid CPR copy
  • A valid passport copy
  • Health fitness certificate from one the centers approved by the Ministry of Health
  • 3 personal photos

 

Tuition fees at undergraduate level are the same for local and international students. Tuition is charged by credit hour which is 92.700 BD on average.

 Students usually need an average of 135 credits to graduate. However, programs hosted by London South Bank the average credit hour is 180 BD and the average credits needed to graduate is 150 Credits.

ASU offers the following postgraduate courses:

Prospective postgraduate students require the following for admissions:

  • Original certificate & transcript of secondary school
  • Equivalent to non-Bahraini general secondary school certificate/private school’s certificate
  • Copy of valid CPR
  • Copy of valid passport
  • Health fitness certificate from centers approved by the Ministry of Health
  • 3 personal photos
  • Endorsed bachelor’s degree certificate & transcripts
  • Two recommendation letters (one from a faculty/staff member from the university where the applicant has graduated
  • Experience letter (no less than one year’s experience in a relevant professional field)

 

The average tuition per credit hour for postgraduate student at ASU is 144.200 BD and the average credits needed to graduate is 36 across most of the programs. 

 The university has established a student fund which supports the students who are facing financial constrains by paying a part of their fees. 

Applicants can apply by visiting campus and submitting the application form along with required documents, or by providing the same through the online system.

University information

The typical admissions criteria for students are as follows:

Undergraduate courses:

  • Students must obtain secondary school certificate or its equivalent certified by the ministry of education in the Kingdom of Bahrain

 

Postgraduate courses:

  • Students must hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a university or college recognized by the ministry of education in the kingdom of Bahrain

 

Scholarships are available to all eligible students.

 For bachelor’s programs the students above 90% are eligible for a partial scholarship up to 30% for the first semester of studies.

 ASU also supports students in international programs hosted by British Universities with an Academic Excellence scholarship which is divided into three categories depending on merit level achieved upon high school graduation.

The university has a CareerDevelopment & Alumni Affairs Office which offers a number of services for students and graduates, including:

  • Supporting and maintaining the relationship between the university and graduates
  • Offering graduates jobs according to their needs and qualifications
  • Holding cultural, scientific and sport activities for the graduates
  • Establishing an Alumni Club
  • Strengthening the relations with ASU graduate employers and workers

·        Workshops every semester for alumni and prospective graduates (e.g. to prepare for job interviews; preparing a CV etc.)

·        An annual Careers Day Exhibition to display job and training opportunities

·        A one-to-one career development consultation sessions

  • Maintains contact with graduates for participation in workshops, updating info, and getting their perspective on university services and programs
  • Helps graduates find jobs and prepares them for the job market

  •  Invites alumni in the colleges’ advisory council to raise their concerns in the academic programs
