The Department of Economics is one of the vibrant departments of BUBT. B.Sc. (Hons.) in Economics and B.Sc. (Hons.) in Environment and Development Economics (EDE) are both full time four-year day shift programs, consisting of 12 (twelve) regular semesters. The usual course load is 12 credit hours in each semester. These programs are designed with compulsory high-level courses in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Mathematics, Statistics and Econometrics along with other courses. The programs are entirely taught in English. Students, in their last semester, write a research report each under the guidance of a faculty supervisor for the completion of the B.Sc. (Hons.) Degree in Economics and EDE. In addition, students need to attend and pass successfully in the Viva Voce examinations for the completion of the B.Sc. (Hons.) Degree in Economics and EDE. Thus, the students are offered the opportunity for achieving academic qualifications suitable for careers in business and various government offices, as well as for specific areas in administration, research, consulting and policy making. The Department of Economics also offers M.Sc. in Economics which is a full time evening program requiring sixteen months for completion. During the last semester of this program, students need to conduct a Project-work under the guidance of a faculty supervisor for the completion of M.Sc. in Economics program.
Currently, the department has sixteen full-time faculty members who earned their degrees from renowned universities. The department regularly organizes seminars where professionals present their keynote papers. Besides, the department regularly arranges study tours and cultural programs.

Admission Requirements
Undergraduate Programs:
GPA of at least 2.50 or 2nd Division in both the SSC and the HSC examinations; or
GPA of at least 2.00 either in the SSC or the HSC examination, but the total GPA in both the examinations must be at least 6.00; or
'O ' Level with at least 5 subjects and 'A' Level with at least 2 subjects and in these two examinations out of these at least in 7 (seven) subject’s students must have passed 4 (four) subjects with at least B grade or GPA of 4.00 and in 3 (three) subjects with in at least C grade or GPA of 3.5.
North American High School Diploma or International Baccalaureate, or its equivalent.
In the case of sons/daughters of Freedom Fighters a total GPA of at least 5.00 in both the SSC and the HSC Examinations. But the proof of Father /Mother as Freedom Fighter must be submitted.
