Dartmouth A.B. candidates who major in engineering sciences learn to synthesize concepts from many fields as well as specialize in a chosen area. They also can join multidisciplinary research teams and collaborate with faculty and graduate students. A.B. candidates who also plan to pursue the B.E. and are interested in specific engineering fields can use these sample programs as models when designing their own programs. Majors are expected to have a basic understanding of calculus, physics, chemistry, and computer science. First-year students interested in the major should take the placement test in mathematics. Unless otherwise prohibited, prerequisites may be taken under the Non-Recording Option. Any course being used to satisfy major or minor requirements beyond the prerequisites may not be taken under the non-recording option.

Students must have completed their secondary school education and have subsequently enrolled at a college or university and earned credit, in order to be considered for transfer admission. Students are admitted to the freshman class on the basis of strong academic performance in a rigorous course of college preparatory study, especially in the areas of math and science; The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of transfer applicants whose native language is not English and who have not been studying in an English-speaking country for two years or more. Students should have SAT or ACT Test for the admission.
