The Dartmouth Department of German Studies offers a curriculum those appeals to a wide range of interests. Our majors have pursued careers in business, engineering, finance, law, journalism, government service, medicine, and the sciences, as well as in art, literature, philosophy, music, and film. Majoring in German Studies broadens your intellectual and cultural horizons; it also affords you many professional opportunities. Our students explore an extraordinarily rich cultural tradition one that has thoroughly influenced almost every other field of study and they do so in a very individual and personal setting. The department’s small size encourages close relationships between students and faculty, as do our programs in Berlin. Our Programs: Major A focuses on literary and non-literary texts in their historical and intellectual contexts. Major B combines German Studies classes with those from other areas. The modified major is designed by the student, combining German Studies with another discipline. A minor in German Studies is often done in conjunction with a major another department (e.g., Government, Economics, and Physics).
