Admission Requirements
To be admitted into the Master's in Integrated Product Design (IPD) Programme a design or engineering degree is required. For design this includes areas of design such as industrial design, product/service design and human-centred design. For engineering this includes disciplines such as mechanical engineering, manufacturing, computer science, human-computer interaction or sustainability. All candidates need to demonstrate academic excellence and design-related competencies as outlined below. Out of the three master programmes offered by IDE faculty, IPD is the most technology-oriented, therefore we expect candidates to demonstrate a balance of design-related competencies and technical/engineering competencies.
To evaluate your application, the selection committee uses the following evaluation criteria. They will decide whether you demonstrate sufficient experience in each competence:
- Candidate demonstrates appropriate design skills and competencies such as creativity, ideation, concept development and design research and is able to apply these skills to complex problems.
- Candidate demonstrates people-centred competencies in areas such as human factors, user research, interaction/experience design, or usability studies
- Candidate demonstrates technology and engineering competencies in areas such as mechanics, mechatronics, computer-aided design, smart materials, bio-materials, or software engineering
- Candidate demonstrates prototyping and experimental design competencies, from low-fidelity to high-fidelity prototyping including 3D printing, digital prototyping, AR/VR prototyping, UX prototyping, or feasibility testing
- Candidate demonstrates competencies in communication and visualisation such as sketching, diagramming, or modelling
- Candidate demonstrates research skills and an academic approach
- Candidate demonstrates strong interest in the MSc IPD and presents convincing reasons for choosing the programme at TU Delft.
Teamwork skills are essential as students will cooperate in project teams. English proficiency is very important for successful participation in project teams. At IDE, we expect MSc students to take an active approach in defining their personal learning path.
