The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Effat University offers a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Students in the ECE program must have a strong background in mathematics and physics and a command of the English language to provide the breadth essential or optimum professional growth. The curriculum offered by the Department of ECE meets these objectives because it consists of several curricular components that allow the students to build a solid foundation of basic physical principles and obtain experience in design as well as an insight into the profession and practice of electrical engineering.

Electrical and computer engineers are the technical driving force behind the progress of technology, electronics industries, and many other forms of technology that impact the quality of our lives. Electrical engineers design, develop, test, and oversee the manufacturing and maintenance of electrical and electronic systems. The ECE program emphasizes developing problem-solving skills applied to analyzing and designing real-world problems. It encompasses all areas of development, design, and operation of electrical and electronic systems and their components.

Students in the ECE program will be introduced to topics important to the computer engineering field, such as computer hardware design, computer networks, and software engineering, as well as topics in electrical engineering, such as communications and signal processing, microelectronics and integrated circuits, wireless communications, microwave electronics, computer-aided design, control systems, electromagnetism, and several technical and nontechnical support courses will be examined. Students obtain a broad education necessary to understand the impact of electrical engineering solutions in a global, social, and environmental context.

The Electrical and Computer Engineering program is also fully accredited by the National Commission for Academic Accreditation & Assessment (NCAAA).                                                                

The curriculum for the BSc Electrical and Computer Engineering program provides students with a comprehensive introduction to core areas including computer programming, problem solving, communications,  signal processing, microelectronics, integrated circuits, wireless communications, microwave electronics, robotics, power and control systems, amongst other key areas.                   


At the early years of students' academic journey at Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering, they take General Education Program (GEP), attributed to the Liberal Arts – an American style education. The GEP covers arts and humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and technological studies to help you gain insight into varied critical learning skills, investigate essential branches of knowledge, and develop appreciation of diversity and change across time, culture, and national boundaries. ​​

The students can also sit for the Cambridge English LinguaSkill placement exam if they did not sit for the iBT TOEFL or IELTS. They must score a minimum of 162 to be allowed entry to the Psychology Program. Those who could not pass the exam are placed in a pre-college program at Effat English Academy that helps them achieve scores for entry.

All Effat University programs require a minimum level of English Proficiency. They will be admitted to Foundation 1 and 2 (two semesters) or Foundation 2 only (one semester) at Effat English Academy. They will enroll in the college level after successfully passing the foundation program.
