The Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences / Bachelor of Education aims to prepare students for career as a secondary school teacher, in mathematics, science or IT, with the flexibility to teach middle school years through to VCE. Students will develop skills in mathematics, computing, modelling and statistics. Students will get experience each year in classrooms across the state where they can apply their learning into practice with real students. The Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences component of the program will provide students with a strong foundation in the basic principles and techniques of mathematics and understanding how mathematics is applied to the real world. Students will be prepared to become a professional educator through the Bachelor of Education component, with electives including: information technology, physics, chemistry, biology, earth sciences or environmental science. Mathematics is a core subject. Areas of study include: computing (skills), education, mathematical sciences, mathematical statistics, mathematics, mathematics (applied), mathematics (modelling), teaching (secondary). Upon completing this course, graduates will be recognized to seek registration to teach in secondary schools through the Victorian Institute of Teachers (VIT).
