The Department of Forest Materials Engineering aims to cultivate future professionals who can contribute to the development of the forest materials engineering industry by teaching students basic theories and professional knowledge required for the rational use of eco-friendly new materials from forest, including wood. For engineering fields, the Department of Forest Materials Engineering offers courses such as wood physics, wood drying and experiment, wood engineering, and wood structure that are required for development of eco-friendly and high value forest materials with outstanding strength and durability as well as application of them as construction and industrial materials. For chemistry fields, the department offers courses such as wood chemistry, bionano materials, wood materials adhesion and testing, and wood materials coating and testing that are required to acquire the basic and applied knowledge necessary for various fields, ranging from bio energy and new materials through the chemical processing of forest biomass to medical drugs and cosmetics from useful extracts.
