Cardiac Perfusion Technology is a specialized field within allied health sciences. A cardiac perfusionist is responsible for operating extracorporeal circulation equipment, such as the heart–lung machine, during open-heart surgery to maintain artificial blood circulation and oxygenation. This allows the surgeon to work in a bloodless field and perform the procedure more effectively.
